DOCKZILLA SOLVES TOWN CONGESTION WITH MODULAR DISTRIBUTION HUB

Breckenridge, Colorado – a popular tourist destination – was overwhelmed by an influx of last-mile deliveries into the heart of their downtown, leading to constant congestion.

Dockzilla designed a modular building to serve as a distribution hub on the outskirts of town to receive inbound shipments of food and beverages. Once the product arrived at the hub, it was loaded onto a fleet of electric vehicles and delivered to local businesses.

The distribution hub slashed the number of trucks driving through the town center, improving pedestrian safety and reducing emissions for the busy ski town.

Results at a Glance:

  • Optimized logistics and operations through a centralized delivery hub
  • Rapid deployment to get operational and test pilot program
  • 334 delivery trucks removed from downtown Breckenridge
  • 54,006 cases of product delivered to local businesses
  • 11,289+ lbs. greenhouse gas emissions reduced

The Challenge

Breckenridge To Pilot Distribution Hub To Ease Delivery Congestion

Breckenridge was battling an increase of last-mile food & beverage deliveries, which caused major truck congestion on its busy tourist-filled streets. The congestion not only disrupted the town’s charm but also posed a safety risk to pedestrians and caused increased emissions.

The town wanted to pilot the concept of a distribution hub on the outside of town that could receive, sort and deliver product to local businesses. They weren’t interested in building leases or time-consuming construction projects.

The Solution

DOCKZILLA DESIGNS & INSTALLS MODULAR DISTRIBUTION HUB FOR LAST-MILE SORTING & DELIVERY

To alleviate Breckenridge’s delivery congestion, Dockzilla offered a modular alterative to traditional construction: a temporary delivery hub. Set up in an empty lot on the outskirts of the town, this modular building was designed to serve as a centralized place for all incoming food and beverage deliveries, allowing for efficient sorting and distribution using a fleet of electric vehicles.

Rapid Installation

The custom building was installed by the Dockzilla team in a matter of weeks, getting the town operational lightyears faster than if they went with permanent construction.

The Results

Improved Logistics and Operations

The centralized delivery center allowed for more efficient logistics and operations, reducing delivery times and improving overall efficiency. Since launch in November 2024, there have been 54,006 cases of product delivered to local businesses in town.

Reduced Truck Traffic

The delivery center helped removed 334 delivery trucks from the city center in just 2 months, significantly reducing congestion and improving traffic flow. This has led to a reduction in 11,289 lbs. of greenhouse gas emissions.

Successful Pilot Program

This distribution hub provided valuable insights into how Breckenridge’s improved logistics could be scaled to optimize shipping and deliveries for other tourist towns across Colorado.
